Getting back to business after the Flood of 2008 weighs heavily on the entire business community. Small and large business owners have invested a tremendous amount of time, money and resources to make their ventures successful,
and in July 2008 over 700 businesses watched this wash away in the murky waters of the Cedar River. Despite challenging funding obstacles businesses owners of all sizes and scope are working hard to help rebuild stronger than before. Yet the business community remains cautiously optimistic because other disasters have proven that an estimated 25 percent of businesses do not reopen following a major disaster and of those that do reopen 51% will close within two years due to economic hardship and lack of sustainability.
